MAGA is Not Normal

Here is an example of an opinion columnist portraying Felon 47’s MAGA movement as normal in the history of the USA. Normal!? And, he’s serious. He opens his article telling us that we, the American people, are engaged and are having “healthy political discourse” with each other. He concludes that what is happening today in our country is a “naturally recurring occurrence” in our history.

Author, David Dunn-Rankin, throws out three presidents for us to consider: Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, and, even, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as in our New Deal POTUS. In his writing, David fails to realize that — over time — the leaders of our civilizations are supposed to be getting smarter, better, more understanding of the science and politics that makes up our world. He also fails to realize that MAGA is a dog whistle for Make America White Again, a Nazi way of thinking that was behind closed doors until 2015, when Felon 47 made his way down his fake-gold escalator.

MAGA is nationalism at its core. While nationalism (not MAGA) may have worked in Jefferson’s time, when there were simply not enough folks on this planet for any other theory of human survival in America, but to say that nationalism is a normal way to run our country today is to say in all manner of toxic voice, “Americans know nothing about the world in which they live.” Those Americans are still attached to the political theories of Jefferson’s time, failing to recognize that the world has grown massively more crowded, thus closer physically since then. And, don’t forget the nukes we’ve acquired since Jefferson.

Jefferson was not MAGA, David; he was far more intelligent than most for his time, something that cannot be said of today’s MAGA POTUS. He would not have subjected Americans to this type of autocratic nationalism if he had lived today.

I invite all my friends to write to him at David@d-r.media. We cannot allow the media to normalize any of this that is happening to our country today.

  1. David Dunn-Rankin’s attempt to normalize MAGA by comparing it to past leaders ignores a key truth: societies evolve, and leadership should evolve with them. MAGA isn’t just nationalism—it’s a reactionary movement fueled by grievance, racial resentment, and authoritarianism.

Jefferson, for all his contradictions, was a man of progress. To suggest he’d embrace MAGA’s cult-like, anti-democratic tendencies is an insult to history. Nationalism in his time existed in a vastly different world—without nukes, globalization, or modern democracy. Clinging to outdated ideologies today isn’t patriotism; it’s willful ignorance.

MAGA is not a return to American greatness. It’s an attempt to drag us backward into division and fear. That is not normal.

  2.             The Second American Civil War has begun.  It doesn’t matter if your political persuasion is Republican, Democrat or Independent.  That is not how the battle lines are drawn.  On one side are the working class, non-wealthy Republicans, Democrats and Independents.  On the other side are the ultra-wealthy. The ultra-wealthy are now in power and are hell bent on driving a stake deep into the heart of America’s Working and Middle Class financial structure, turning us into serfs and paupers so that they can have even more billions. How do we know this?  The South African billionaire, Elon Musk, with the encouragement and approval of the President, Donald Trump and the Republicans in Congress, for the past two months, has been destroying those American institutions that gave us, ordinary Americans, security, safety and health:  Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.  The cruelty exhibited by Messrs. Musk and Trump is difficult to fathom.  Tens of millions of Americans are being pushed to the brink financially, unable to pay for housing, food, medicines and health care.  Funding for food banks and school lunches has been either stopped or curtailed.  This is Musk’s goal.

Consider this: what will your life be like if you don’t get your Social Security payment?  What will you do if Medicare no longer pays for your major medical needs?  I am 84 years old and I have had two surgeries (shoulder and wrist) in the past four months.  My hospital bills exceed $80,000 and my doctors’ bills exceed $15,000.  Medicare paid all but a small portion of those costs.  So, imagine, you paid into Social Security and Medicare your entire working life and Elon Musk calls it “the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time.”  What will you do when Musk, Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress cancel these benefits that you paid into over a lifetime so that they can have those funds?  They’ve already passed this legislation. Are you ready to fight back?

For the record, the first American Civil War was also a war with the oligarchs, the ultra-wealthy.  Those were the Southern slave owners who became wealthy on the backs of slave labor.  The fact is, the war between the ultra-wealthy and us commoners is an on-going war being fought without bullets, for now.  Government and the economy cannot be separated.  And, but for us, the masses, there would be no billionaires.  Presently, a mere 806 American billionaires have as much wealth as one-half of the American population (163,000,000.)  That’s 806 vs. 163,000,000.  If the U.S. population were only 3.3 million instead of 330 million, there would be no billionaires.  They make their money from us.  Shame on them for being so greedy.  Right now we must come together as united Americans and defeat them at the ballot box. You must forget your MAGA ties at least for a brief period of time.   Our next votes must go to the Democratic candidates, at least for now.  Saving yourself financially while saving the Union must be our top priority.
